of some translation theories, I point out that the most suitable theory for analysis of the translator?s subjectivity is hermeneutics. In Chapter Three, “Theoretical Description of Hermeneutics”, I introduce the main points---historical understanding, prejudice and horizon fusion---in hermeneutics, the most important theory to back up and the feasibility of it in analysis of translator?s subjectivity. In Chapter Four, “Analysis of the Translator?s Subjectivity by Hermeneutics”, I divide the content into two parts: “The Translator?s Subjectivity: A General Notion in Translation Theories” and “The Embodiments of the Translator?s Subjectivity from the Perspective of Hermeneutics”. I introduce and explain the subject of research from the perspective of how the translator leaves his/her imprints on translation. Then I propose a working definition of the translator?s subjectivity which includes four propositions concerning: the translator inscribes his/her personal imprints whose power is dynamic, changing with time, his/her age and experience as well as his/her perception of external conditions on translation; the translator is always embedded in certain social, political and cultural agendas, which effects his/her choice of translation assignments and translation methods; the translator?s subjective elements such as his/her horizon, prejudice, intention, value, knowledge, competence, etc., guide his/her selection of translation strategies and the translator?s native cultural needs call for corresponding reactions from the translator and the translator has to compromise the conflicting voices both from his/her own inner world and the external world. Based on the introduction of hermeneutics above, I discuss the translator?s subjectivity in four aspects: the translator in the selection of translation strategies, the translator as a defender of his/her values in the process of translation, the translator with his/her other subjective orientations and the translator under
