Abstract With the rapid development of software industry, new technologies emerge in an endless stream. Traditional software development methods can not meet the need of such an increasingly complicated and ever changing requirement, meanwhile reusable design is also a vey demanding chanllenge. Under this circumstance, the object-oriented method comes out to be the mainstream of software development. Now it is widely accepted in software engineering that a well software system framework is vital to enhancing system expansibility, maintainability, reusability and eventually ensuring success of the system. This paper is focused on the research of the design and application of key components of city-card POS system. Plugin module is herenby introduced, which is one kind of main methods for software framework development and application, to cope with the requirements for software structurization and function extension. Focusing on solving application problems is crucial to developing such a kind of plug-in POS system. Firstly, the system expansibility needs to be enhanced. The whole system framework should be constructed with plugin modules in ordr to mitigate complex situations involved in extending, developing, maintaining programs.Secondly, the dynamic configuration function of the system needs to be improved. Based on the plugin framework, the system function and version are configured in XML, then dynamic downloads of new function plugins and deletions of unconfigured plugin can be achieved when logining, Meanwhile, it enables POS terminal to add on new functions, uninstall useless functions and upgrade version when required in order to make full use of system resource. Finally, the system security also needs to be reinforced. It is necessary to take into account safety requirements in desiging key components of the POS by means of an efficient and simple encryption algorithm which can provide a safe transaction environment without affecting transaction speed, and
