Abstract T he main shrub resources w ere invest ig at ed on hilly lands in Linqu count y Shandong province and
it s roles in w at er and soil con servation, together w ith its pract ices and benefits during it s ex ploit at ion w ere ana-
ly zed . T he result s show as t he f ollow ing : t he shrubs present many f unct ions ef fectively, su ch as improv ing soil
physical propert ies, increasing soil w at er content , capturing precipitation, regulating surf ace run off , and pre-
serving soil and w ater . M oreover, high benef it s of int egrated hilly land exploit at ion can be gained.
