Ex perim ent s w ere carried out both in the f ield and laboratory to determ ine the f acto rs aff ect ing escape behav
ior of Sp henomorp h us indic us . I n t he f ield, appr oach distances w ere positively correlated w ith refuge dis
tances, but no signif icant corr elation w ith body temperatures and substr ate temp er atures . Adult S . indicus h ad
sim ilar approach distance as juveniles in op en m icroh abitat s, but larg er than juveniles in closed m icroh abitat s.
In the laboratory , diff erence betw een sexes in approach distance w as f ound, w hich w as lar ger for f em ales than
m ales during reproductive season .
