Abstract: Based on the theory of compensatory wage differentials, using the survey data of 802 migrant workers, this
paper examines the differences of migrant workers job satisfaction and its influencing factors. The results showed that:
wage levels had different impact on work satisfaction of migrant workers with different age, gender and industry. The
older migrant worker were, the higher their satisfaction was; and male migrant workers’ satisfaction of job security and
overall job satisfaction was less than that of female; the married migrant workers had higher satisfaction of working
conditions, pay, and overall satisfaction than unmarried migrant workers; the migrant workers with higher education level
always had lower job satisfaction. The industry characteristics had significant effect on migrant workers’ job satisfaction;
the migrant workers in state-owned enterprises, collective enterprises, joint ventures or foreign capital enterprise always
had higher job satisfaction than the migrant workers in individual and private enterprises.
