ABSTRACT With the development of the third generation mobile communications, email can also be used in the mobile terminal. In the traditional mobile email system, the emails are received by accessing mail server only when the client request on its own initiative. While in the mobile email system based on Push Mail technique, the email contents can be pushed to terminal at the first time when a new email is detected. This paper mainly studies the mobile email system based on Push Mail technique. The software requirement of the email system are given first and then the architecture and the functions of the main modules of the email system are designed. The key technologies of system implementation, including push technique, Email detection, terminal content adapter and so on, are studied. Also some business processes of Push Mail system, including sending email, receiving email, receiving email attachments and forwarding email, are described. Then the programs design of sending email and receiving email for the mobile email server are implemented using Java Mail API and the network connecting method between client and mobile email server is given. Next the programs for the client, including sending email in client, receiving email in client, the design of user interface, deleting email, account management and Chinese problem etc are designed. And the solution to security problem of the mobile email are discussed. Finally the functions of email system are tested by loading the client software in universal wireless toolkit of the Sun Corporation and the results show that the system meets the design requirement.
