＼删艄A ＼删艄 A C ognitive Stu dy of C h inese Neologisms with the Same Concept but Different Forms AThesis Submitted to Foreign Studies College Of Hunan Normal University In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For The Degree of Master ofArts in the Subject of English Language and Literature By Zhou Zhon Under the Supervision of Professor Liao Guangrong Changsha，Hunan May,2011 AbstractIn Abstract In previous researches of words with the same concept but different forms(Abbreviation as WSCDFs)，we found it has gained abundant achievements，but still exists some defects．Scholars have discussed it from different aspects，like formal structure，semantic meaning change，cultural bases and functions，but seldom on its generative mechanisms through the cognitive perspective and the WSCDFs under the Chinese neologism system．This thesis attempts to study the generative mechanisms of WSCDFs in new Chinese by the cognitive linguistic model，especially the word concept frame theory, through ethnographic data collection，induction，analysis，qualitative and quantitative methods aiming to describe and explain the different representations related to a certain entity concept． The research subject which emerged after 1 990m，are collected from the following Chinese dictionaries：《现代汉语新词语词典》，《新 华新词语词典》(2003)，《中国语言生活状况报告(2006)》，《中国 语言生活状况报告(2007)》and《21世纪华语新词语词典》as well as some words which are the most widely recognized in network， medium，books and newspapers．In this thesis we find out three points： first of all，the generation of the Chinese neologisms with the same concept but different forms(Abbreviation as CNSCDFs)should have to confront to the following laws：(1)entity concept comes first；(2) concept with less bodily experiential perceptions comes first．Secondly, the generation of CNSCDFs realized by profiling certain elements in a word word concept frame．Thirdly,the ways of CNSCDFs are conceptual metaphor,conceptual metonymy and analogy,and the motivations are correlation and similarity．Th
