Title：Research Title：Research on the Riparian Land use Pattern and Differentiation of Liuxihe River,Guangzhou Major：Physical Geography Name： Gan Ming-chao Supervisor：Prof．Dong Yu-xiang Abstract Based on the technology of GIS，the theory of regJ【onal differentiation and the theory of pattern-process，the paper analyzes the land use pattern of riparian on the scale of basin-riparian—reach and the factors of its differentiation by using the renewal land use survey with 1：2000 scale of Liuxihe basin in 2004 as the basic data．The main conclusions of this study are as follows： First，on che scales of basin．riparian land use pattern shows the character of ecotone．The main 1and use styles of the riparian are woodland and garden plot．which account for 31．45％and 26．62％of the total area of riparian respectively．Compared with the Liuxihe basin，the nature 1andscape of riparian is reducing and the human landscape is increasing．On the indexes of the landscape pattern，the distributing of riparian patch area and perimeter of both scales are logarithmic normal distributions． But the riparian has the higher patch density,diversity index and fragment dimension index，Iower dominance index and contagion index，and the Iandscape is fragmentized． Second，the regional differentiation of land use pattern shows gradient variations in combination of land use styles and 1andscape pattern along the Liuxihe．The research result shows that each reach has 2-3 main land styles．At the upper reaches the main land styles are woodland，garden plot and paddy field，at the middle reaches are garden plot，residential area and paddy field and at the lower reaches are vegetable plot，residential afea and garden plot．The landscape index of each reach shows the tendency of increasing or reducing by degrees at upper-middle-lower reaches．Each landscape index of land use styles has the similar change tendency． Third，the combination of nature conditions forms the basin 1and use pattern of riparian，the human activit
