ABSTRACT
Based on literature search, questionnaire investigation, field observation and statistical analysis ,this
study analyzed the status of physical education in elementary school in Xinye County after the
implementation of the new course standard ,including the status of teaching staff, the training of new
course standard, the knowledge of teachers and students to the new course standard, and the
implementation of the new course standard. Then the teaching purposes, contents ,methods and assessment
of physical courses were specially analyzed. After that, the problems occurred in current physical education
in elementary school were elicited.
Results indicated that: (1) the new course standard of physical education was accepted extensively by
physical education teachers. But there are still some teachers misunderstanding the standard, since they
follows the outdated teaching manner, leading to the less effect of the reform of teaching assessment; (2)
although totally the amount of teachers meets teaching requirement, in some regions, it was relatively less,
leading to the shortage of teaching resources; (3) some physical education teachers and students do not
have enough acquaintance of the new course standard; (4) the operations of physical classes and
extracurricular physical activities were not optimistic, because the lack of sports venues and equipments
interfere the implementation of the new course standard. According to the problems occurred during the
teaching of physical classes in elementary school, the following countermeasures should be taken up:
