Abstract :T e c anges in t e emergy structure of Beijing urban ecosystem were analyzed wit Emergy met od from 1990
to 2001, some indicators of emergy were selected suc as per capita emergy, t e density of emergy, t e potential of ecologi-
cal functions, t e basic carrying capacity of population, t e self-supporting rate of emergy, and so on, and t e dynamics
of emergy of t e city were assessed.T e researc result s own t at Beijing urban ecosystem developed up to a ig er lev-
el, but t e city also faced great c allenges from ecological and environmental pressures and it was an urgent task to
strengt en t e capacity building of sustainability for t e city development.Some key areas for t is capacity building also
were presented.
