9. Practical Reading: Teamwork
Whether manufacturing or a service industry, many companies understand the benefits of team work. They know that an effective team will increase productivity and competitiveness. However, not all teams are effective. Successful teams are made up of people with different backgrounds and skills rather than of personalities. All people are different and their differences can be used to advantage in a team if their skills are respected and accepted. There is likely to be ‘The Leader’ who ensures that everyone understands the goals, ‘The Challenger’ who is not afraid to question methods and tries to improve teamwork, ‘The Doer’ who keeps everyone focused especially after distractions, ‘The Thinker’ who carefully considers all team members’ ideas and tactfully improves them, and ‘The Supporter’ who eases tensions and ensures good working relationships.
