Claire later calls Tony Martino of the bank’s New York branch to introduce herself. Preview Each chapter begins with a “Preview” of the action in the story. The preview module briefly provides the underlying schemata (i.e., a cognitive framework) of the learning activities. For this first chapter, you may wish to spend some extra time to go over the basic scenario by introducing the business organizations and key characters. (Refer to Appendix I for an overview.) In the Instructional Overview, check the story to see which characters will be included in this chapter. Then explain how to pronounce the characters’ names and briefly practice pronouncing them with the class. Next, play the opening audio (welcoming the class to the chapter) and the pre-listening questions. Ask the class to answer the questions, but only to acquaint them with these key concepts they will need to absorb the meaning of the ensuing conversation. The pre-listening questions are general in nature and are not designed to test in-depth English language skills. In fact, in the early chapters, students may only be able to answer the questions in their native language.
