During the period of first emperor Kublai Khan in the Yuan Dynasty (A.D. 1279 to 1368) the opera had evolutional changes and the period was classified as the Golden age of the Classical Opera. In general, there are dozens of of schools of traditional Chinese operas, using the dialects of different areas. The most noticeable ones are: Peking Opera, Kun Opera, Huangmei Opera, Yue Opera, Shaoxing Opera, Yu Opera, Chuan Opera, Ping Opera, Hebei Bangzi, Henan Bangzi, Chao Opera, etc. Peking Opera Known as Chinas national opera, Peking Opera is a synthesis of music, dance, art and acrobatics. The operatic dialogues and monologues are recited in Beijing dialect. It is the most influential and representative of all operas in China. Section A In 1790, an imperial edict was issued to summon the four major Anhui Opera troupes to go to Beijing to perform and celebrate the 80th birthday of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing. The lyrics of the Anhui Opera were so easy to understand that the opera soon captivated the audience of the capital city. Based upon traditional Anhui Opera, it has also adopted the strengths from Kun Opera and Qinqiang Opera as well as traditional folk tunes in its development.The jinghu is the backbone of the Peking Opera orchestras. There are four roles in general: the male, the female, the painted face, and the clown, which are further classified by age and profession.
