Managers and supervisors perform four management functions. They are planning, organizing,leading and controlling. The basic responsibility for these functions begins with top management and moves down the management ladder. As a member of the management team at a hotel,supervisors work with managers to carry out these functions. Part One Speaking and Passage Planning is deciding how to reach objectives choose the best way and make the best use of resources available,whether there are man power, money, material,equipment or time. A supervisor’s daily work requires planning, such as writing job schedules,completing special events training new employees and other activities. Organizing is carrying out plans and management’s decisions and dividing work and responsibilities in the working team. This means putting together and making the best use of the resources available. At some hotels,this includes recruiting and hiring employees. Part One Speaking and Passage Moreover, organizing includes giving employees the training they need to do their job well and letting them know how their job affects the success of the hotel. Leading is directing and motivating the members of the team,so that they can meet personal and organizational goals. Leading involves directing, motivating, evaluating and disciplining employees. Controlling is making sure that plans are carried out properly. It includes these steps: reviewing the standards set by the management, overseeing the employees’ present performance,taking corrective action to meet the standards and deciding whether the corrective action works.
