The Improvisation Game What do you need? A group of 3/4 students A stop watch A set of Topics A set of SKIP cards What’s the goal? The goal of the game is to make a 45 second improvised speech on a random topic. You get points for making a successful speech. What are the rules? One person is the time keeper and score keeper. They still participate in the speeches. Shuffle all the topic papers and put them in a stack face down. The time keeper names the first speaker. They choose a piece of paper from the container. They read the topic out loud. They choose to either SKIP or PLAY. Every player has 3 skips. You can use a skip to SKIP a topic (not a turn). To get new skips they have to finish a full 45 second speech. You can only have a maximum of 3 skips. The goal for the speaker is to fill 45 seconds. If they do, award 5 points. If they reach 30 seconds award 3 points. There are no points for stalling out before 30 seconds is up. Keep the tally of scores public. The winner is the person with the most points at the end of all the rounds. Optional: Extra challenge When the speaker is giving their speech the other group members have to carefully listen to their speech. If any of the other group members notice that the speaker deviates from topic, repeats too many of the same words/sentences, or hesitates (doesn’t speak for 3 or more seconds), then they can play a deviation, repetition or hesitation card IN SILENCE. Every player can play 1 card per turn. At the end of the speech every player that played a card explains why they played their card. The other group members decide if the cards was fair. If they decide a card was fair, the player that played that card gets 1 point and the speaker loses 1 point.
