Foreword
Once a conceptual model of the relationships among

model can be constructed. The measurement model defines

Classical test theory
Classical test theory is based upon conceptual models in which
relations amongg constructs are theorized.
Classical test theory provides a model for assessing random
measurementmeasurement errorerror.
Classical test theory provides a framework for assessing the extent to
whichwhich thethe observedobserved datadata actuallyactually "fitfit" thethe conceptualconceptual modelmodel asas
measured by the variables that are included in the measurement model.
GoodGood "fitfit" indicatesindicates thatthat thethe observedobserved variablesvariables "mapmap" thethe conceptualconceptual modelmodel
well.
Poor "fit" could indicate that the observed variables do not "mapp" the concepptual
model well, that the conceptual model itself is flawed in some way, or that the
conceptual model does not function in the same way for individuals with
diffdifferentt ddemographihic chharactteriistitics.
The measurement of reliability and validity is included in classical
ttestt ththeory.
