Gulliver's Travels: A Voyage to Lilliput Unit 8 Look at the pictures below and answer the following questions. 1. Who is the man in the first picture? What has happened to him? 2. Where do you think this place is? What are those creatures on the man in the second picture? What are they doing? 3. What else had happened to the man before he finally left this place? Reading Tip Find out the setting, characters, and events of this story. When I awoke, it was just daylight. I attempted to rise, but was not able to stir. As I lay on my back, I found my arms and legs, along with my hair, tied to the ground. I likewise felt several strings across my body. The sun began to grow hot, and the light hurt my eyes. After a while, I felt something alive moving on my left leg, advancing over my chest and coming almost to my chin. Looking downward as much as I could, I perceived it to be a human creature not six inches tall, with a bow and arrow in his hands. At least forty more followed the first. I roared so loud that they all ran back in fright. Struggling to get free, I managed to break the strings and pull out the pegs that held my left arm and hair to the ground. I also felt that the strings over my left arm were becoming loose. Then, one of the creatures cried, "Tolgo phonac!" I instantly felt more than a hundred arrows discharged upon my left hand, and they pricked me like so many needles. I now considered it wise to lie still, and when the people observed I was quiet, they shot no more arrows. In the evening, I was so hungry that I couldn't help putting the finger of my left hand on my mouth frequently to show that I wanted food. Soon, more than one hundred inhabitants appeared, carrying many baskets of meat. They watched in astonishment as I swallowed several tiny legs of mutton or loaves of bread in a single gulp. I was then brought some delicious wine, which I finished at one drink. They began to dance with delight upon my chest. If it had not been for their hospitality
