Changesotherthaneditorialareindicatedbyaverticalruleinthemarginofthepagesonwhichtheyapp ear.Theselinesareincludedasanaidtotheuserinidentifyingchangesfromthepreviousedition. ThiseditionofNFPA13DwasapprovedasanAmericanNationalStandardonAugust13,1999. OriginandDevelopmentofNFPA13D Recognizingtheneedtoreducetheannuallifelossfromfireinresidentialoccupancies(about50perc entoftotallossoflifebyfire),theCommitteeonAutomaticSprinklersappointedasubmitteeinMay19 73topreparetheStandardontheInstallationofSprinklerSystemsinOne-andTwo-FamilyDwellingsan dMobileHomes.ThesubmitteewasposedofmembersoftheCommitteeonAutomaticSprinklersandotherte chnicallypetentexperts.ThestandardwassubmittedandadoptedattheNFPAAnnualMeetinginChicago,I L,onMay12-16,1975. The1980editionwasapleterewriteofthe1975edition,includingSIunitswhereappropriate.The1980 editionincorporatedtheresultsoftheresidentialsprinklertestprogramadministeredbytheNatio nalFireProtectionAssociationandfundedbyaresearchgrantfromtheUnitedStatesFireAdministrat ion.FactoryMutualResearchCorporationandtheLosAngelesCityFireDepartmentconductedthedwell ingtests.FactoryMutualResearchCorporation,McNearyInsuranceConsultingServices,andtheChar lotte,NorthCarolina,FireDepartmentconductedthemobilehometests. Aftergainingpracticalexperienceusingthe1980edition,modi
