INDUSTRY ANALYSIS FRAMEWORK -- a Global Perspective Airlines Industry -- March 1995 (Source: Brian T. It presents our auditors with a good framework with which to evaluate global industry risks and issues and, in turn, determine the applicability of these risks to specific clients. The Industry Analysis Framework accomplishes these objectives by: Presenting a brief description of the industry from a global perspective Discussing the critical elements of the Business Analysis Framework affecting the industry Presenting available global resources DESCRIPTION OF THE INDUSTRY The airline industry provides air transport for cargo and people. This industry is currently the quickest way to transport something or someone from point A to point B. This writeup primarily addresses the passenger airline industry, which is segmented by geographical range: Regional National Global Although air cargo issues will not be discussed in this document, most of the passenger airlines simultaneously carry passengers and a limited amount of cargo. There are several air carriers that deal exclusively in cargo (i.e. UPS, FedEx and Cargolux). There are several similarities between the cargo and passenger carriers. From an operational standpoint, they both operate fleets of aircraft and must have highly trained personnel to operate and maintain them. They both have logistical and computing needs to ensure an error-free trip for the passenger or parcel. There are also significant differences between them, such as the customers and competition. The customers of cargo airlines often require more detailed logistical support than those of passenger airlines.
