Show some pictures of adolescents smoking and analyze the reasons. To arouse interest and lead in to the topic While- reading: Part 1 Divide the text into two parts: a letter and an Internet page. Read the letter fast, find out the genre, main idea and writing purpose. Summarize the main idea of each paragraph. Read the letter paragraph by paragraph, do different tasks such as gap-filling and drawing mind maps. To get general and detailed information of Part 1. To develop fast reading strategy and careful reading strategy. While- reading: Part 2 Read and draw a mind map to summarize Part 2. Read, analyze and understand the six pieces of advice. To get general and detailed information of Part 2, learning about the advice on quitting smoking. Post- reading Task 1: Answer questions related to the text: Why did grandad use and Internet page to give his advice? What kind of person do you think James’ grandfather is? Why?
