To activate students’ background knowledge Step 2 Finding Teacher asks students to scan the passage and find out sentences using past future. Step 3 Analyzing Teacher asks students to read the two groups of sentences in Activity 1 and try to answer the three questions. Q1:What is the difference between thetwo groups of sentences? (Sentences in the first group use past futuretense. Sentences in the second group usepresent future tense.) Q2: What clues in the sentences help youdecide which tense to use? (The time adverbials like “Last year”, “in that year” in the first group, “This year” and the verb form “has climbed” in the second group are clues to help readers decide which tense to use.)
