Graduated from the Composition Department, Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1967. He has worked successively in Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Peking Opera Theatre and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. He was Director and Artistic Director of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and acted meanwhile as Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Songs of Shanghai. At present he is Vice-President of the Chinese Musicians Association, President of the Shanghai Musicians Association, Artistic Director of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Songs of Shanghai.
