in the recent past.
• Customer Pain-Point: How to simulate
the impact of two bodies resulting from
magnetic force?
• The use of simulation in this context will
reduce the cost and development time
for such mechanisms while increasing
the confidence in the design.

Magnet simulations : a commitment
• This is primarily a kinematic study (position –
velocity – trajectory – force) however the accurate
calculation of magnetic force becomes necessary.
• Calculating the impact forces is an important goal
requires an accurate calculation of the kinematic
motion.
• The establishment of a workflow for numerical
simulations must involve Multiphysics and coupling
between electromagnetics and solid mechanics.

Approach taken
• Electromagnetics capabilities in LS-DYNA can be broadly divided in two categories : Eddy current
solvers and Resistive heat solvers.
• The main feature of the Eddy current solvers is their use of a FEM-BEM system meaning that no air
mesh is necessary to model the interaction between conductors.
