It is a famous cultural city with a history of more than 2,700 years. Together with Langzhong in Sichuan Province, Lijiang in Yunnan Province and Shexian in Anhui Province, Pingyao Ancient City is also known as one of “the four most well-preserved ancient cities”of China. It is one of the only two ancient cities (the other is Lijiang Ancient City) in China that have successfully applied for the world cultural heritage with the whole ancient city. In 2009, it was rated as the most complete ancient county in China by the World Records Association. Pingyao Ancient City in Shanxi Province 返回 山西省平遥古城 　　平遥古城，位于山西省中部晋中市的平遥县内。作为著名的文化 城 市 ，平 遥 古 城 已 有 2,700 多年的历史，它与四川省阆中、云南省丽江、安徽省歙县并称为“中国保存最完好的四大古城”。它与丽江古城是中国仅有的两座以整座古城成功申获“世界文化遗产”的古城镇。2009 年，世界纪录协会将平遥古城评选为“中国现存最完整的古代县城”。 　　Pingyao Ancient City has basically retained the original appearance in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Overlooked from above, the whole county looks like a turtle, with its head facing south and tail facing north. There are four doors facilitated separately in the east and west directions of the city, like the four limbs of the turtle. Because of these, the Pingyao Ancient City is also called the“Turtle City”. In China, the tortoises, dragons, phoenixes and Kylins, are called“the four representatives of auspiciousness”, and the tortoises symbolize longevity and health. The name of“Turtle City”also expresses people’s hope for stability and unity of the nation, long-term peace and stability of the county, and peaceful and contented lives of the people there. 中文 　　平遥古城基本保留了明清时期的平遥县城原貌。从空中俯视，整座县城形如一只乌龟，头朝南，尾朝北。城中的东西方向有四个门，如同乌龟的四肢，因此平遥古城也被称为“龟城”。在中国，乌龟与龙、凤凰、麒麟并称为“四灵瑞”，乌龟象征着长寿和安康。将平遥古城称为“龟城”也寄托着人们对于国家安定团结、地区长治久安、人民安居乐业的希望。 返回 　　Pingyao Ancient City owns three treasures: the ancient city wall, Zhenguo Temple and Shuanglin Temple. The first
