Abstract.TheintracellularinvertaseofSacct~aromycescere~L~iaeismainlyfoundinasoluble

form(91-95f~},whileonlyminoramountsarefoundboundtotheinternal(4-8(2~.)andplasma

membranes(lessthan154).Intheprocessesofderepressionorrepression,inhibitionofRNAor

proteinsynthesis,orinthepresenceof2~thelevelsofthemembraneboundand

externalactivitiesaremodifiedinawayinwhichtheirrelationiscleat,whilethesolubleenzyme

doesnotchangeatall.Theseresults,togetherwiththefactthatthemembrane-boundandthe

externalenzymesareglycoproteins,suggestaprecursor-productrelationshipbetweentheen-

zymicforms.
