Dickenswasbornin1812inPortsmouth,UK.HewasthesecondchildofnavyDickensandElizabethBa’s.Atthe ageof5,theymovedtoChatham,andthenCamdenTownat10yearsold.
Oncehehasgoteducationinaprivateschoolforatimewhenhewasyoung.Butwhenhewas12,hisfatherwasprisonfor debt, and he was sent to a shoeshine in London as anapprentice,inwhichheworked10hoursaday.Maybethankstotheexperiencesthere,hefinishedhisworksmoretendtocarethelaboringpeopleatlowsocialstrata.
Later,theirlifebecamealittlebetterfortheheritagehisfatherinheritedandthenhegotthe chancetostudyinschool.
HegraduatedfromWillingtonCollegeat15yearsold.Afterheworkedforalawfirm,andthen changed toareporter,whoreportedcongress debate. Dickens didn’t get so much formal
education;mainlyhebecametalentedthroughself-study.
Dickenswasthegreatexampleofrealism,andhadgreatinfluence inworld’sliterature. The《OliverTwist》wasthesecond full-length novel he wrote. The 25-year-old writerdecidedtosetWilliamHogarth, who wasarealism artistinEnglandasanexample,facinglifebravely,andexpressedthetruelifeofthepoor.Healsoappealedtoreformation,whichsavedthepeopleinextrememisery.Andso,hewassupposedto“Thefounderandgreatrepresentative”inthehistoryofBritishliterature.
