EvidencesuggeststhatweddingringswereusedinancientEgyptaround6,000yearsago.However,unlikethemetalsandgemstonesusedtoday,theywerecraftedfrommaterialssuchasreeds,leatherorbone.Inthecenturiesthatfollowed,theweddingringtraditionwaspickedupintheWest,whereitspreadfirstinancientRomeandGreece,subsequentlythroughoutEuropeduringtheMiddleAgesandeventuallytoEasternculture.Throughouthistory,thecircularshapeoftheringhasendured,andsohasthetraditionofwearingitonthefourthfingerofthelefthand.Thelatterpracticestemmedfromanancientbeliefthataveinrandirectlyfromthisfingertotheheart.Althoughthisbeliefhassincebeenprovedfalse,thecustomhaspersisted.
