Maintainingsafetyandintegrityofthestructuresrequireabetterunderstandingofstructural dynamicpropertiesandresponse. Inthisstudy,insitutestisconductedtoinspectthestructuraldynamicbehavior ofgateinshiplock. Therealshipisusedtocrashagainstthegatetomakestructuralvibration.Usingthefree vibration responseto obtainstructural dynamicpropertiesprovidesthe foundation ofstructural optimizationdesign. Thespecialfenderis usedascollision protectionsystem ofthe gate. Thetestresultsshowthatthe vibration amplitudechanges greatlybetweengateswithandwithoutthe fender.Thevibrationamplitudesofgatewithfender arelessthantheonewithoutfender.Basedontheinsitu vibrationtestconducted,itisconcludedthattheinstallation of fender as collisionprotection device is an effective method tomake the gate in shiplocksafer.Keywords:Dynamic behavior; Shiplock;Gate; fender;Vibration; CollisionINTRODUCTIONThemitregatehasbeenwidelyusedintheshiplock.Besidesthenormaloperationalloads,thegateis subjectedtounexpectedincidentsincludingsuddenloadssuchascollision oftheship.
