Abstract

Thetermsmachinelearning(ML)andartificialintelligence(AI)arewidelyusedtoday.AIisworkingwithmanyalgorithmsthatincludeMLalso.However,noviceusersusethesetwophrasesindividually.AnalyzingandUnderstandingthesignificanceandroleofFirstTimeContributorsinAIandMLprojectshelpstoimprovisetheprojectscontentandprovidesthemanopportunitytotakeupnewprojects.ThisworkispresentedwithquantitativeandqualitativeanalysisofAIandMLprojectsonGitHub.Therearethreeresearchquestions(RQ)preparedtosupporttheanalysis.Theanalysisismadebyconsideringmanyparameterssuchasprogramminglanguages,forkedrepositoriesandcommits.

TheArtificialIntelligence(AI)andMachineLearning(ML)basedprojectshaveseenatremendousincreaseoverthepastfiveyearsandwillhaveasignificantroleinthesoftwareindustryintheupcomingyears.AIandMLarecloselyrelatedtoAutomation.AccordingtoyearlyreportspublishedbyGitHub,thereisa43%improvementinproprietarydevelopmentenvironmentsand27%inopen-sourceprojects.So,asetofnewdeveloperscontributetotheseprojectstoimprovetheireffectivenessandefficiency.OvermillionsofpeopleuseGitHubtodiscover,fork,andcontributetoAIandMLprojects.Also,theseprojectshavefoundanewaudienceandsetofpossibilitiesinthedevelopmentarena.Thisarticlefocusesmainlyonthefirst-
