Analysis of Different Heroism in American and Chinese Movies Mulan Abstract Hero worship exists almost in every type of culture. Heroism, result of hero worship, represents special social cultural pursuit of a culture and to some extent influences the development of a society. However, the definition of the social value of heroism differs with cultures. In the year 1998, Walt Disney adapted the Chinese theme cartoon Mulan which won a high box office worldwide. Later in the year 2009, China released her own movie Mulan which also captured audiences heart. These two movies, which were made the same time and same theme, have provided important information for the cultural comparative study. In this thesis, the similarities and differences of heroism in both American and Chinese movies will be discussed in detail and the origins and cultural backgrounds of heroism in both cultures will be analyzed, too.
