Her language labyrinth, beset with phantom, is even more an impact and test for literary appreciators. As important parts of narration in her novels, the narrative situations, narrative utterances and narrative images play a crucial role in constructing Can Xue’s language labyrinth. The situation of darkness obstructs the gleam of reason and serves as a freely-perching paradise for every soul of the characters in her novels. Every character’s respective performance shows readers the psychic spree of the group of narcissists by their sense of complacency and their act of intruding into other’s life. The congestion of political discourses in Can Xue’s novels is not only a kind of subversion, but also a kind of realistical disclosure of the self-magnified images. Furthermore, the non-rational utterance is not only a discourse style for many characters, but more an expressive mode for the writer, thus making the characteristics of narcissists reappear before readers’ eyes. The narrative images are of profound symbolic significance, providing an arena for Can Xue to repose her own spiritual sustenance and pursuit in.
