There are many methods to treat heavy metal polluted water. Compared with traditional method to treat heavy metal pollution, biosorption has many advantages. Especially when it is used to deal with wastewater containing low-level metals, the efficiency is satifying.Three activated sludges have been studied in this paper, activated sludge I and II were seeded with activated sludge III collected from a full-scale municipal wastewater plant cultivated with synthetic wastewater that contained different carbon source glucose and peptone, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that flocculation and settlement of three activated sludges are satisfying. The settling velocity(SV) of three sludges are 15%-50%, sludge volume index (SVI) are 80-120 ml/g, mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) are 2000-3000 mg/L. Furthermore, activated sludge I has the worst flocculation and settlement performance, while activated sludge III has the best. The optimal extraction parameters of heating extraction is 80 ℃ and 35 min, which extracts the most EPS and the level of destruction on cell is the smallest.
