Abs tract: In this paper, two typ es o f arc- sh aped stee l dam pers have been researched. Based on the steel. s d issipa-
t ing energy in hysteresis o f plastics, the design form ula of the arc- shaped steel dam p ers and dam p ing force hystere-
sis loop m ode l are derived. T o verify the m ech anical ch aracteristics o f tw o types o f arc- sh aped stee l damp ers, the
FEA smi u lation s and product tests have been done, and the com p arative analysis o f the results obtained in wt o w ays
is m ade. The results show that the arc-sh ap ed stee l dam p ers h ave higher dam p ing ratio and reliab le hystere tic be-
h av ior, so they can be u sed for bridges and bu ild ing structures.
