Abstract Based on the present conditions of t he greening and landscape wat er consumption, along with daily precipit ation and evaporation
dat a of the last 20 years, t he corresponding balance equat ion of wat er volume is established for the rainwater harvesting demonstration project
in a hospital of Zhenjiang, to calculate the amount of rainwater, that has been collected and ut ilized in this syst em. The results reveals that the
collected water of t his design can meet the water demands of greening, road spraying, surface evaporation and other kinds of water loss. The

wat er saving eff iciency of this system can reach as high as 81% , and 12 526 m of t ap water can be saved every year. The economic eff iciency
analysis indicates that the construction investment of the syst em can be recovered in six years running .
