The article sums up the information of the West Lake, such as the ranges and circumstances around it in chronological order of Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Then a series of comparative analyses toward the research findings of archaeological excavation of Kunming Lake in recent years are made, and the pertinent oppugnation is answered. Finally, based on above researches, the paper puts forward the outline of the West Lake in the early years of Qing Dynasty and the human landscape around it, which lays the foundation for deeply studying the landscape art of Qingyi Garden.
