* Jaime Smith Review green sheet Timing and CR question directions 3 parts of CR questions 9 step question approach 10 types of CR questions Homework GMAT is a timed test Approximately 1 minute 45 seconds for each item on the verbal portion. 10-14 CR Questions in verbal section. About guessing. Don’t waste time reading the directions! Memorize now: Memorize now: For this question type, select the best of the given answer choices. Notice the word BEST. There may be several GOOD answers, but only one is the BEST. Stimulus Question Stem Answer Choices Memorize these nine steps and use them EVERY time you attempt a CR GMAT question! Does the stimulus contain an argument? Find the conclusion and premises. Conclusion: “What does the author want me to believe?” Premises: “Why should I believe? What is the evidence?” If the stimulus contains an argument (75% OF GMAT stimuli do) find the conclusion. Use premise and conclusion indicators as clues. If the stimulus contains a fact set, read each fact carefully. Weak argument: “The Jacksonville area has just over 1 million residents. The New York area has almost 20 million residents. Therefore, we should move to Jacksonville.” Strong argument: “Trees that shed their foliage annually are deciduous trees. Black Oak trees shed their leaves every year. Therefore, Black Oak trees are deciduous.” GMAT authors write EXACTLY what they mean. Do NOT generalize. Pay special attention to quantity indicators and probability indicators. Must Be True Main Point Assumption Strengthen/Support Resolve the Paradox Weaken Method of Reasoning Flaw in the Reasoning Parallel Reasoning Evaluate the Argument AFTER you have read the stimulus and question stem, but BEFORE you read the answer choices, formulate an answer in your head. If you read the answer choices first, you are likely to be tempted by a good, but incorrect, answer.
