维普资讯 第25卷第6期 声 学 技 术 Vo1．25，No．6 2006年 12月 TechnicalAcoustics Dec．，2006 A cross—culturalsemanticdifferentialanalysisof thesoundscapeinurbanopenpublicspaces ZHANG Mei，KANGJian (SchoolofEastAsiaStudies，Umve~ ofSheffield,WesternBank，Sheffield$102rN,UnitedKingdom；Schoolof Architecture，Une~ityofSheffield,Western Bank，Sheffield$102TN,UnitedKingdom) Abstract：A seriesofcomparativefieldsurveyswerecarriedoutinfoururbanopenpublicspaces， twoinSheffield，UKandtwoinBeijing，China．Thesemanticdifferentialmethodwasappliedto determinekeyfactorsthatchraacterisethesoundscape．Ithasbeenshownthatwhilstthesoundscape evaluation inurbanopenpublicspacesisrathercomplicated， itisstillpossibletoidentifyseveral majorfactors，includingrelaxation，communication，spatialityanddynamics，andthesefactorsrae common forboth UK and Chinese situations，although in temr softhe orderoffactorsand the indicesincluded in each factorthereare differencesbetween thetwo countries．Itisinteresting thatthesefourfactorscoverthemain facetsofdesigningtheacousticsofan urban open public space：function (relxaationnadcommunication)，space，andtime，althoughthetypicalcoverage ofthetotalvarianceisonlyabout50—60％，indicatingthe complicatedfeaturesofsoundscapesof urbanopenpublicspaces．Analysesbasedon individual seasonal periodsand individual casestudy sitesshow thattheabove fourfactorscan stillbeidentified．Th e general soundscapeevaluation showsthatboth in theUK andChina，although peoplemayfeelthesound environmentisnoisy／ loud，they could stillfind itacoustically comfortable，unlessa site isdominated by high level unpleasantsoundssuch a8traffic． Keywords：soundscape；urban；ope
