R . China P . R . China Abstract: D ispersion properties of photon ic crystal fiberw ith an air-hole defect core have been investigated by using the fin ite element method. The numerical smi u lation resu lts ind icate that the appearance of the air-hole defect has enhanced the w aveguide d ispersion, and changed the slope of dispersion to ach ieve a flat dispersion. It is also re- vealed that the d ispersion curve downsh iftsw ith continuously increasing the diameter of air-hole defect, and there exists an optmi al value w ith wh ich a flat d ispersion could be achieved. The zero-dispersion w avelength of photonic crystal fiber cou ld be tailored through either changing the air-filling fraction in cladd ing ormoving the air-hole defect aw ay from the origin.
