Inthisstudytheinterannualvariabilityoftheupper-oceanheatcontentintheSouthChinaSea(SCS)
wasrevisitedusingsimpleoceandataassimilation(SODA)combinedwithobjectiveanalyzeddatasetsthat
includedthehorizontalandverticalstructures.Theresultsconfirmedthattheupper-oceanheatcontentin
theSCSislowerthannormalduringthematurephaseofE1Ni(n)oevents,andtwosuperE1Ni(n)oevents,
1982/1983and1997/1998werealsoincluded.Thevariabilityoftheheatcontentwasconsistentwiththe
variabilityofthedynamicheightanomalies.TheSCSthroughflow(SCSTF)playsanimportantrolein
regulatingtheinterannualvariabilityoftheheatcontent,especiallyduringthematurephaseofE1Ni(n)o
events.
