1. Objects
After studying this unit, the students should be able to
1. grasp the basic skills to understand and talk to other people in greetings and introductions;
2. understand the main ideas of Passage A, Task 1 and Task 2, and master the useful words ,expressions and patterns appearing in them;
3. understand the basic sentence patterns and the agreement between subject and predicate verb;
4. develop the basic skills in reading and translation;
5. grasp the basic skills how to write personal cards
6. get familiar with the frequently-used special words in business

Suggested Time and Teaching Plan for Unit One
Contents Time Plan Talk Face to Face
Practise Your Ears 2 periods 1.ask the students to read dialogue 1, 2, and 3 aloud, correct the wrong pronunciation and intonation if they have;
2.tell the students the common ways of how to greet and introduce people;
3. ask the students to do the relevant exercises and make dialogues;
4.divide the students into pairs and do “role-play”;
5.instruct the students how to do the listening work. Passage A 2 periods 1.give the students 5 minutes to read Passage A and find out the main idea of the passage;
2.discuss the whole text with the students;
3.guide the students through the whole passage, focusing on some language points;
4.guide the students through the passage-related exercises. Task 1
Task 2 1 periods
Both the tasks should be read by the students themselves as extensive-reading; it is just for the students’ self-study under the guidance of the teacher. Grammar 1 period The teacher talks about the basic sentence patterns and the agreement between subject and predicate verb to brush up the students’ knowledge concerned.
