Do you know the woman who is speaking to your mother? ● that 既可以用来指人，又可以指物。在定语从句中作主语或者宾语。 A plane is a machine that can fly. (that 在定语从句中指物，作主语，所以不能被省略) The book(that) I bought yesterday is very interesting. ( that 在定语从句中指物，作宾语，可以被省略，此处的that 相当于which) She is the lady that we saw in the bookshop. (that在定语从句中指人，作宾语，可以省略) ● whom 指人，在定语从句中作宾语，在口语或者非正式文体中，whom可以用who 来代替，或者省略。 The person( whom) you just talked about is Mr Black. The boy (whom) we met in the street yesterday is my friend. Is that the man you want to see? ● whose 既可以指人，也可以指物，在定语从句中作定语，修饰它后面的名词。 This is the boy whose father is a doctor. This is the room whose door needs painting.
