The bearing capacity of long pile, short pile and the soil between piles cannot be fully mobilized at the same time. Besides, the bearing capacity of short pile is mobilized more than that of long pile. On the basis of the analysis of the constant thickness-diameter ratio test results, the design of long-short rigid pile composite foundation with varying thickness-diameter ratio is investigated. It is believed that varying thickness-diatmeter ratio, reduction of thickness-diameter of long pile and increase of thickness-diameter of short pile is suitable for the long-short rigid pile composite foundation. The varying thickness-diameter ratio can be realized by constant cushion thickness and varying pile diameter, in which the diameter of long pile is bigger. Otherwise it can be realized by constant pile diameter and varying cushion thickness, in which the thinner cushion of long pile is selected.
