My Favorite Success Story Currently, success seems to be the hot topic in our society. Different people may hold different views on it and each person has a favorite success story in their hearts. For me, until now I have read a lot of success story and all of them make me energetic and hopeful in my life. However, among those stories, what impressed me most is the story of Santiago——the hero in Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. It is a story about an old Cuban fisherman, Santiago, whose thrilling fishing experience at sea. Santiago has experienced the eighty-fourth day of his sail, without any fish, but he never thinks to give up sailing because he has a strong faith that the unlucky days will come to an end. Fortunately, Santiago hooks a big and beautiful fish——marlin. As the marlin is too heavy to be caught by Santiago, he begins a long and suffering fight with it. After two days and nights, both of them are tired and wounded, however Santiago still pulls his all efforts to struggle with the big fish. Finally, he catches it and sails back with satisfaction. Nevertheless, the real danger is coming. The fierce and cruel sharks are attracted by the marlin’s blood in the water. When Santiago is faced with the danger, he is brave, confident and persevering. He dares to struggle and dares to handle any results. The terrible struggle makes Santiago exhausted mentally and physically. At the end, those sharks eat almost all the marlin’s meat. Maybe the result you see is that Santiago fails finally. But in my opinion, in Santiago’s opinion, he does not fail at all because he insists on fighting and never gives up. From Santiago’s story, I have learnt a lot of beneficial understandings in my life. And the reasons why I consider this story as my favorite success story can be listed as follows.
