High-power poses are broad, often defined by stretched-out limbs and a tilted up chin. In a lower-power pose, however, people often wrap themselves up and close themselves off from others. Crouched shoulders, folded arms — these all suggest weakness and vulnerability. General Questions Power posing, the act of taking a posture that exudes confidence, will make you feel powerful even when you’re not. Amy Cuddy and her colleagues’ research showed standing or sitting in high-power poses, even for two minutes change one’s body chemistry and self-perception. 3. How did they carry out the test? 4. What are the results of the test? They put together a test in which they asked people to assume a “high-power pose” for two minutes. Next, researchers asked the subjects to assume “low-power poses” for two minutes. Then, they tested the subjects’ risk *tolerance and body chemistry. General Questions The results were astounding. After just two minutes in a high power pose, the subject’s testosterone level, which is closely related to risk tolerance, soared by 20 percent. The risk tolerance of the low-power posers, meanwhile, shrank by 10 percent. 3
