2Basic Skills: Literacy and Numeracy:In an ever increasingly competitive world, in which employers demand?good numeracy and literacy skills,?its imperative that our students leave Maiden Erlegh with a good grasp of these basic skills.?English and Maths are essential skills for any further education, job or career pathway?that our students?might want to follow.At Maiden Erlegh School?we recognise the fact that we are all teachers of the basic skills, regardless of the subject that we teach.? We strive to give students the opportunity to practice and improve on their literacy?(reading, writing, listening and speaking) and numeracy skills?throughout the day.Enrichment Curriculum:Maiden Erlegh School is proud to be able to offer a wide and varied selection of enrichment learning for our students.Enrichment and extension activities are organised both before and after school through Curriculum Departments. These include a full range of sporting, cultural and artistic activities, regular clubs and activities related to specific subjects. In addition trips and visits during the school day, in the evening and over longer periods involving overnight stays all serve to add value to the taught curriculum.Student MonitoringAt Maiden Erlegh we use half termly data to closely track and monitor the progress all of our students and respond accordingly to both individual areas for concern as well as any trends. This analysis is done by Heads of Department in the first instance.Alongside that, Heads of Year also monitor patterns of progress across a range of subjects and trends in conduct, attendance and punctuality. As well as having a global view of students we take a particular interest in some potentially vulnerable groups.
