We want to eliminate all inaccessible areas and hard to get to locations. * * Please note the grease fitting on the outside of the gear housing. Before TPM this grease fitting was in the inside of the gear housing which was not accessible to the operator. During the TPM exercise a hole was bored in the casting and the grease fitting plumed to the outside making it accessible. * There are many ways to eliminate inaccessible and hard to reach areas and some are very simple, others may require a little more effort and time but whatever it takes we must do if we are to improve and eliminate waste. * Once we have completed the initial phases of the seven steps of Autonomous Maintenance on our equipment it should now be clean and ready to be put back in production. Once we place the machine back in operation we have to immediately start looking for those areas that are becoming contaminated and look for ways to eliminate the contamination and make cleaning and inspection easier and less time consuming. The first thing you want to do when you first start the machine is to look and see which part of the machine is getting dirty first and let this be your first and highest priority for a machine improvement. * Point out that when a piece of equipment is brand new we say that it is in it’s optimal condition. If the maintenance men read all of the maintenance manuals and follow through with all of the factory recommended maintenance procedures then we will still have Natural Deterioration. State realistically, how many maintenance men ever read the Machine Manuals and identify all of the activities that the manufacturer recommends be carried out in order to maintain then machine? Little to none. How many operators ever read the Operator’s Manual that comes with the machine? Little to none. As such we find our equipment in a Accelerated Mode of Deterioration which is where most of our manufacturing equ
