21. Road jams and road rules The fast-growing economy accelerates the pace of people to some extent. People therefore seem to be on the go all the time, which leads to their moving faster on the road. But road jams then arise when everyone wants to go ahead of others to get to the destination earlier. With the surge of the number of different kinds of private cars, road jam is becoming a serious headache for city dwellers, especially those who live in the metropolises. At rush hour, there are unimaginable long queues of cars waiting anxiously to move. In order not to be late for work, people have to depart earlier than their due time to avoid the crowded time. The fluency in transportation can increase the efficiency and economic level, while road jam is a hindrance to the development of society. Another reason contributing to the road jam is that people ignore the road rules. Drivers frequently break the traffic rules to avoid jam. However, this deed just deteriorates the problem. Some pedestrians don’t obey the rules either, they cross the road casually， which makes the situation worse. Road rules teach drivers how to drive effectively to save everyone’s time and guarantee that the whole traffic is as smooth as it can be. Some short-tempered drivers may be mad at the slow circulation and break the road rules without hesitation to move their cars forward. However, more haste, less speed. This deed can only lead to more traffic accidents. Thus, more time is wasted. Rules are rules, they are equal to everyone. Anyone who disobeys the rules must get the punishment. Road rules are just like lubricants which maximize every driver’s efficiency.
