GLOBAL CERTIFICATION FORUM (GCF) Ltd Work Item Description USIM interworking with E-UTRA/EPC Rel-8 Reference: GCF WI-125 Version: 3.0.0 Date: 2010-01-27 Document Type: Technical 1 Scope The scope of the Work Item is to verify the interworking of LTE Terminals between the USIM application on the UICC and E-UTRA/EPC. By this work item Conformance Testing is covered. 2 Description Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Service Architecture Evolution (SAE) have been defined in Rel-8 of 3GPP standards. LTE/SAE or E-UTRA/EPC represents the next significant stage after ‘3G W-CDMA’ for mobile telecommunications with the introduction of new interfaces and transmission techniques that will enable much higher data rate transfer. It is part of the work that will move mobile communications towards the all IP environment. To support the new requirements of E-UTRA/EPC and also the USIM applications defined in 3GPP TS 31.102 has been enhanced and 3GPP TSG CT WG6 (CT6) also created a WI entitled “Testing the interworking of LTE? Terminals with the USIM”. The objective of the CT6 work item is the specification of test cases to verify terminal interworking with the USIM application on the UICC with E-UTRA/EPC. Therefore the USIM application specification TS 31.102, the E-UTRA specifications (mainly TS 36.331) and EPC specifications (mainly 24.301) are considered in this WI to ensure that the terminal is acting on the network side according to the parameters specified on the USIM and vice versa. For this the existing test specification TS 31.121 is reused and has been extended to cover the testing for the new requirements. 3 Justification The correct interworking of LTE? terminals with the USIM is a basic part of the E-UTRA/EPC system due to the central role of the USIM as the responsible element for authentication, mobility management, call control and new features like CSG (closed subscriber group) handling.
