Familiarization with the basic components of electrical circuits and Ohms law. Equipment one (1) circuit board kit with accessories, seven (7) banana lead wires with alligator clips, one (1) unknown resistor, one (1) digital multimeter. Ammeter Light Bulb Ohmmeter Power Supply Resistor Voltmeter Figure 1 Symbols for Electrical Components Caution Make sure that the power supply is unplugged before starting each part of the experiment Plug it in only after you have double checked all connections to make sure they are right. This procedure will prevent injury and save fuses. If you are not sure about the circuit ask the lab instructor. Part 1 Measuring Resistance The last page of this lab has information about multimeters. Set the switch to AC. To measure resistance, one lead goes into the ‘common’ socket, and the other into the scoket labeled ‘V/ W ‘. Set the multimeter up to act as an ohmmeter by turning the dial to the section marked (, W is the symbol for resistance. Start on a high setting and work down until you get as many digits as possible. Connect the ohmmeter across the unknown resistor as shown.
