It has been selected to replace traditional CT’s for the new 3WL because of it’s ability to provide superior protection. How does the Rogowski Coil provide superior protection?One of the most important benefits of the Rogowski Coil is in it’s linearity. The traditional CT design has a inherent saturation property, which causes the measurement at the high end of the spectrum to be out of calibration. The Rogowski Coil contains no saturable components. It is able to provide more accurate information to the trip unit, which in turn improves protection. This signal is then integrated electronically, so the voltage accurately represents the current waveform.
